Embracing autumn

Whilst those in the Northern Hemisphere are looking forward to Spring and Summer, here in Australia we are drifting towards Autumn and Winter. It's overcast, chilly and raining today - very autumnal weather! So rather than mourning Summer, I'm embracing Autumn by thinking about the things that I will enjoy as this change of season is upon us. I'm looking forward to...

Wearing toasty socks...
Bringing out the warm blankets and throws...

Staying indoors and reading more books (and blogs)...

Planting a few bulbs...

Lighting the fire in the evenings...

Enjoying winter blooms such as Lily of the Valley and hellebores...

Making lots of soup (tonight I'm making minestrone) and eating it with fresh, crusty bread...

Lighting the candles more often...

And of course, enjoying the colours of nature brought to us compliments of the falling leaves...
No matter where you are, what do you do to embrace the season?

  1. How beautifully and evocatively you've described autumn (my favourite time of year). My autumn thing - long walks with the dogs in the country lanes around our farm and then home to the warmth of the fire and one of my husband's wonderful winter casseroles!

  2. Oh gosh, I'm going to be such a party-pooper Lee, but this time of the year plunges me into a deep black hole - I want it to be Spring already! I had to draw all the blinds last night for the first time & I suddenly realised Winter is on the way. I do enjoy the fire etc., but I just hate putting on 500 layers of clothes every day!

  4. I always dread the end of summer and the coming of the darker days. I try to appreciate it, but I just hate the cold and the dark, but you've given me some inspiration.
