Boyd Dower House

Have you seen the competition in the latest issue of Inside Out where you can win a whole week staying at the iconic Boyd Baker / Dower House situated on the outskirts of Melbourne?

If mid century design is your thing it might tickle your fancy. Personally, I think the stone walls in the building are very beautiful...

P.S. Jane (My Pear Tree House),  if you're reading this post - I know you'd write a brilliant summary of this lovely house, surprising us all with interesting tidbits, but unfortunately I just don't have your wonderful writing skills to do it justice. Sorry, I 'cheated' and put up a link.

    I think your images speak a million words. I had no idea you could stay there. It is amazing. Not sure about the straw roof though. I bet that is some fire hazard. But love love the stone walls.

    Oh Lee, I've just dropped into the foetal position after seeing those straw ceilings! They were in every room here at The Hedge including the bathrooms, bad memories of a million creepy crawlies. Love the stone work though.

    I'm a fan of stacked stone too - not so much the reminiscent of the 70's, but def now. You've got to be so careful with stacked stone tho, it can look amazing, and in the blink of an eye, it looks crap - difficult medium to get right I tink!

    Hi Lee. While mid-century isn't really my style I can certainly appreciate and admire it - this house is stunning. I've actually noticed I have been starting to incorporate a few pieces into my own decor of late though I'm not minimalistic enough to make it work on a grand scale.

    haha just read Millie's comment.. boy I'm with her.. that would just freak me out... I had to throw out huge amounts of seagrass baskets etc after a long long battles with crawlies.. thankfully that is long in the past now [knocking on wood 3 times here!!!]

    So I do love how low the house sits and just blends in with the surroundings... almost looks like small picnic shelter from the outside... very unobtrusive on the landscape....
