Something a little bit different this week - no beautiful, serene, highly styled homewares shop today, instead The Junk Company features this week. This shop (if you could call it that, because really it's a large cavernous space) is situated right in the heart of the city at 583 Elizabeth Street, Melbourne. It's filled to the brim with second hand furniture and goods for the home. And whilst it can be a little bit pricey, it does have some terrific, interesting one-off pieces.
Some of the pieces are very 'must have'...
(I've always wanted a mannequin to use in my bedroom to drape scarves and beads from)
While other pieces border on kitsch and are 'must avoid'...
The store has an amazing variety and quantity of pieces that turn over ever so quickly (in fact, quite a few of the pieces shown in this post have already sold). However, they are always getting new stock into the store.
Here are just a few of the current items that are my favourites.
I can just imagine this wire plant stand filled with beautiful flowering plants in terracotta pots in a French-style courtyard...
I used to have one of these Planet lamps when I was at uni, and for me there's still something vaguely appealing about them...
These two black leather club chairs strike me as being very Ralph Lauren...
This green leather club chair needs a good clean, but I think it would be perfect in a library as a good reading chair (it looks quite comfortable)...
I love map plan drawers - they're perfect for storing art paraphernalia etc...
This Grant Featherston rocking chair definitely needs to be re-upholstered, but I think it would make a beautiful addition to a nursery or living area...
I've always adored Hans Wegner wishbone chairs...
And finally, who could go past a lived-in Chesterfield that looks like it has been very much loved in a previous life...

great post. i love the chesterfield in the last pic. it's not 'over-buttoned' so it looks like it would be quite comfortable and the gathered detailing on the front of the arms is beautiful.
