Living in a fishbowl

This gives new meaning to 'living in a fishbowl'! I live in quite a small inner-city house and space is always at a premium. So what's your best tip for small space living? I could use all the help I can get.

Oh, I have lived in a lot of small spaces. My best tips are:
- cull often
- edit, edit, edit - don't keep a lot of stuff out
- shelves and more shelves
- multifunctional furniture (ottomons with lids for storage)
- buy only what you love and never go to garage sales
- regift
- figure out your style and stick with it
- library not bookstores

I bet you are doing fine, but it is a challenge! There are times when it would be nice to be a minimalist type.

Hi Lee

Less is More..
Less possesion more space.(smile)
It doesn't matter how much space you have clutter always find the room. Why don't you share how you do in a small space?

As the others have said the only way is to pare possessions. You feel better too. Also - big furniture, paintings etc all look good in small spaces and make the room look larger than it is. Lots of little things make the space look bitty and pokey.

Hi Lee I agree with Jane's comment re big furniture. Simple large pieces feel more restful and less cluttered. And all the lovely bits and bobs and books - glass fronted display cupboards. You can still see your pretties [why give them up] but they are in a 'controlled' space [and less dusting]. Just got to try and adhere to this myself:)Julie

This is very original. It must be a soothing space to work in. Having lived in some pretty tight spaces, I think my best advice is edit and pare down to what you absolutely need and love. :)

as much as possible up off the floor, hon bun. the most organised i've ever been was living in a teeny-weeny one and a half bedroom apt in nyc with my 6ft 2 partner; within a month we had as much as possible off the floor - hooks, hanging racks, pictures etc. see you soon x
