This weekend I...

Made this linocut and framed it for a friend for her birthday...

Baked a chocolate chip and banana cake (and ate far too much of it)...

Bought and wrapped this present for my mother-in-law's birthday...

Spent far too much time surfing the web looking at pictures like this...

And lastly, I gave this very thirsty possum that visited our front verandah a cool drink of water...

It was over 46 degrees in Melbourne on Saturday - the hottest day on record. Bushfires raged in all parts of the state and over 80 people perished in the fires. My sister's farm was right in the middle of the Bunyip Ridge state forest fires and she had to be evacuated, though her husband stayed on at the farm to help fight the fire should it threaten the property. It was a very scary 24 hours and luckily their farm was spared from the fires, although it came very, very close (within a couple of kilometres). My heart goes out to all those who have been affected by the fires.

The following image from The Age newspaper shows just one of the fires in the Bunyip area...

Wow. Your weekend sounds wonderful and reminds me of myself (baking and eating too much, blog surfing for eye candy...) but no possums here. Also, your summer sounds wickedly awful with that heat. The fires are very scary. Canada is the same in the hot summer, so many fires. Your sister and family were blessed to escape the inferno. It is just luck, isn't it, that we are all okay?

Going now to read more of your blog. Thanks for visiting mine!
